Crowdlab
Crowdlab is a survey app that participants would complete tasks on for research projects. It is live in the iOS appstore and android play store.
The majority of the research would be diary based asking users to take photos and videos to record an experience. There was also the ability to ask a range of questions from multiple choice to drag and drop cards. Researchers could also create forums to initiate discussion between different participants. There is a researcher dashboard where users could log in and monitor the results.
I was responsible for all of the design work for both the app and the dashboard. The video below will help you get a better understanding of how Crowdlab works. All the screens shown in the video I designed and worked closely with the development team to implement.
Examples of work.
Working at Crowdlab meant I got to do a wide range of design work which was very rewarding. Being a B2B business meant that I got to design for the clients who were also users of the product. This made user research fascinating for each client. I got to conduct user interviews with all our different market research industry clients. The below example is one of the real life user personas I got to create.
I also got to help develop new features that required a lot of research and UX thinking. I really enjoyed the challenge of thinking out of the box of how to aid a market researcher in collecting data in a new and innovative way.
Crowdlab was a leader in mobile research and won an award from the MRS for Best Technology Innovation in 2013 while I was an employee.

“Kate's growth as a designer has been a pleasure to watch. Aside from her obvious creative and artistic talent, she has a clear grasp of user requirements, and pays great attention to the feedback she receives from users in developing and designing the systems she works on. She is multi-dimensional in her ability to turn non-technical requests from clients into technical designs for developers, bridging the gap between the two nicely. She has displayed a great deal of aptitude in both creating new things from scratch or taking existing features and reworking them to improve the UX and UI. Kate is a pleasure to work with and I can't recommend her highly enough.”
